Tim Robbins

Tim Robbins's first feature as a director, Bob Roberts, is a mock documentary about a man standing for the Senate from Pennsylvania who plays the guitar and sings hymns to the established order. Robbins wrote, directed and starred in it, and built the character as someone raised in a commune who turned himself, in the anti-hippie wave of the 1980s, into a Wall Street power trading on inside information, carrying him over from a Saturday Night Live sketch. Dead Man Walking made him an Academy nominee in the directing category, and in that same film Susan Sarandon won the actress award. As a performer he took the supporting actor Oscar for Mystic River, and he played in The Shawshank Redemption and The Player. The Berlinale's award records say the Berlinale Camera went to him in 2016.
