1: Nenokkadine

Gautham makes rock music and there are thousands in front of the stage. Nobody knows he is ill. Gautham remembers his mother and father being killed when he was a child and describes the faces of three men. But the faces he sees change; he thinks he has found one of them, goes closer, and the person in front of him turns out to be someone else. The doctors say this is an illness and that his parents died in an accident. Gautham does not believe it. A journalist takes an interest and starts investigating. The first record she finds confirms what he says. Sukumar writes and directs. Mahesh Babu plays Gautham; Kriti Sanon and Nassar are in the cast. The language is Telugu. It is Kriti Sanon's first film role. Part of the shoot was done outside India; a section of the narrative is set in Europe. The matter it treats is the unreliability of memory; the film shows the viewer what the character sees and gives no confirmation. The narrative uses the shape of a revenge story but a diagnosis is at its centre; who is right stays open to the end. The film tried an unusual narrative structure for Telugu cinema and was argued over on release. The music is by Devi Sri Prasad and the concert scenes are a separate layer inside the narrative. Its limit is length; the narrative is long, the interludes conventional, and the ending turns into an action sequence. Who it is for: viewers who like Telugu cinema and attempts at psychological thriller. Who it is not for: it is long, confusing, and the ending too tidy.
