Nannaku Prematho...

Sukumar's 2016 Telugu film builds a plan of revenge at length. Subramanyam is dying and tells his sons about a man who took most of his fortune years ago. Abhiram, the youngest, decides to take it back in the time his father has left and travels to London. His method is not violence but calculation: he works out the man's connections in business, his family and his weak points one by one, planning to bring him down through the arrangement he built himself. The film uses the analogy of chess openly and explains each move to the viewer afterwards. The story therefore advances through flashbacks and some sections are over-explained. The relationship between father and son is kept as the emotional axis. Who it's for: viewers who like Telugu action and stories built on a plan. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a realistic plot; the film holds its logic loosely.
