5x Favela, Now by Ourselves

The film is built from five separate short stories. All of them take place in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The project brought together more than eighty young people. They were young people living in the favelas. They went through workshops in scriptwriting and filming. Then they shot their own stories. In the first story a young man starts studying law. He cannot find the money for books and transport. Selling drugs crosses his mind. In the second there is a boy called Wesley. His father is tired of eating rice and beans every day. The boy and his friend go looking for the price of a chicken. In another story a kite falls into the neighbouring quarter. That quarter is held by a rival gang. Sílvio Guindane and Roberta Rodrigues appear in the ninety six minute film, a Brazilian production made by seven directors together and finished in 2010.
