A Bird of the Air

Lyman works on the highway helping stranded cars. He does not know his own past, has been alone for as long as he can remember, and is not much of a talker. One day a parrot turns up at his trailer; the bird talks constantly and what it says sounds like it belongs somewhere. Lyman starts looking for where the bird came from. Fiona, a woman who lives in the moment, helps him. Margaret Whitton, known as an actress, directed this, her first feature. It is a small, quiet production: what is being looked for appears to be the parrot's owner, but what is really being looked for is who the man is. Rachel Nichols and Jackson Hurst take the leads, with Buck Henry and Judith Ivey in the cast. The telling does not hurry and promises no big explanation.
