A Clod of Clay

The film tells the life of the writer Ion Creangă. A friendship sits at the centre of the account. It is the bond between Creangă and the poet Mihai Eminescu. The two come from different temperaments. Creangă writes close to the speech of the people. Eminescu follows another road in verse. Even so they understand each other well. Their talk and their letters carry the film. The director did not want to present the two as statues. He brings them to the screen in their everyday selves. The telling avoids a language of praise. A measured and warm approach was chosen. The film was made on the centenary of the deaths of the two writers. Literary history is told through one friendship. Adrian Pintea and Dorel Vișan appear in the eighty four minute film, a Romanian production Nicolae Mărgineanu finished in 1990.
