White Gate

The film is set in Romania in the communist period. Two young students are trying to get out of the country. They are caught attempting to cross the Danube. As punishment they are sent to a labour camp. The camp is called Poarta Alba. The camp sits on the canal planned between the Danube and the Black Sea. That canal was being attempted at the end of the forties. Those held there were political prisoners. Conditions were hard and violence was daily. The film shows that life in detail. The filming was done in black and white. The script starts out from two books. Ion Besoiu, Cristian Bota and Mădălina Craiu take the leads in Nicolae Mărgineanu’s Romanian film of 2014.
