What A Fat Wreck Is About
Fat Wreck Chords likes to say it has spent twenty five years ruining punk rock. Shaun Michael Colón’s documentary tells the story of the label founded in 1991 by Fat Mike and his then wife Erin Kelly-Burkett, from the start through the growth, the hard patches and the survival. Mike also founded NOFX, and the business partnership outlasted the marriage. The film is built on interviews with the label’s bands, most of them melodic punk with a few, Lagwagon and Strung Out among them, leaning towards metal. Where Colón has no archive footage he stages the moment with puppets. It was crowdfunded and came out in April 2016. Laura Jane Grace and Joey Cape are among the interviewees.
