A Fierce Green Fire

The documentary tells the history of the environmental movement. The span it covers is fifty years. The account is divided into five acts. Each act has its own story and its own narrator. The narrators, in order, are Robert Redford, Ashley Judd, Van Jones, Isabel Allende and Meryl Streep. One act tells of stopping the dams in the Grand Canyon. Another covers the fight over toxic waste at Love Canal. Greenpeace and Chico Mendes are inside the account as well. The last act comes to climate change. The film argues that environmentalism is one of the great social innovations of the twentieth century. Mark Kitchell’s American documentary, a hundred and one minutes long, was completed in 2013.
