Berkeley in the Sixties

The documentary tells of the student movement at Berkeley. The account begins in 1960. That year the hearings held in San Francisco were protested. Then in 1964 the free speech movement is born at the university. Students object to the ban on politics on campus. After that come the demonstrations against the war in Vietnam. The last section covers the events at People’s Park. More than fifteen former student leaders speak in the film. Years later they weigh up what they did. Archive footage comes in between. Mario Savio and Allen Ginsberg appear in it. The music of the period is used as well. Mark Kitchell directed the hundred and seventeen minute documentary. The making of it took six years. The American production was finished in 1990.
