What A Good Wife Is About
Mirjana Karanović stepped behind the camera for the first time after a long career as an actress, and plays the lead herself. Milena is fifty and lives what looks like a settled life in the Belgrade suburbs: a garden, a family, an order to things. Then she finds a videotape, and her husband’s past comes into the room with it; the recording points at crimes committed by his unit during the war. In the same days she learns she has cancer. The film places the two facts side by side and asks how a woman expected all her life to look after everyone else takes her own life back. It screened in the World Cinema competition at Sundance in 2016.
