What A Light Beneath Their Feet Is About
A high school student in her final year has to choose between two things: going to the college she dreams of or staying at home to care for her mother, who lives with bipolar disorder. For a long time she tries to hold both wishes together; school, friends and the responsibility at home will not fit into the same day. Her mother is sometimes well and sometimes not, and all the girl’s plans depend on that changeability. The film shows the illness not as an event but as a condition lived alongside, and offers no easy solution. It tells quietly but insistently how the weight of care falls on a young person. Madison Davenport and Taryn Manning appear in Valerie Weiss’s eighty nine minute American film, completed in 2016.
