A Midsummer's Fantasia

The film is cut in two: the first half in black and white, the second in colour. In the first part a Korean director does research for a film in the town of Gojo, in the Nara region of Japan. He walks about with his interpreter, listens to people and gathers the small stories of the town; this part is shot like a documentary. The second part is the film that came out of that research. It tells of a few days of closeness between a Korean woman and a man from the town. The same town takes on entirely different meanings in the two halves. Where the line between the real and the invented actually runs is the film’s real subject. Kim Sae-byuk and Ryo Iwase appear in Jang Kun-jae’s ninety seven minute film, a joint Japanese and Korean production, completed in 2015.
