What A Star Is Born Is About
A young woman arrives in Hollywood from the provinces and becomes a star with the help of a famous actor whose drinking is destroying him, their trajectories running in opposite directions. This is the first screen version and the template every remake has followed. It describes the cruelty of the studio system from inside, with the press, the publicity department and the changing of names all present in detail. The early Technicolor is still vivid. The ending is strong enough that later versions repeated it.
