A Suitable Girl

The documentary follows three young women in India. All three are under pressure to marry. Their families insist on it. The people around them push the same way. The women have plans of their own. They want to work and to study. They are trying to hold on to who they are. The marriage meetings begin. Candidate families are introduced. The documentary goes into those meetings. The choices the three women make are not the same. One gives in to the pressure, another resists. The film follows this over several years. The tie between marriage, family and society is examined. Dipti Admane and Ritu Taparia appear in the ninety seven minute documentary. It is an Indian and American production two directors finished in 2017.
