A Wedding Suit

A mother has a tailor make a suit for her son to wear to a wedding. While the finished suit hangs waiting, three boys working in the same building get an idea: the tailor's apprentice, another apprentice and a third boy decide to try it on secretly at night. The plan grows, it nearly gets away from them, and they just manage to put it back before morning. Abbas Kiarostami directed and wrote it with Parviz Davayi. It runs 57 minutes, in Persian. It belongs to his early period, made after The Traveler in 1974 and before The Report in 1977. In these films Kiarostami describes the world of children not with adult pity but on their own terms. Who it is for: viewers who like Kiarostami's films about children and small-scale moral stories. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a large narrative. The film is built on one object and one night and goes nowhere else.
