Aachi & Ssipak

Jo Beom-jin's 2006 Korean animation takes a resource crisis to its most disgusting logical end. In the future humanity has burned through every energy source, and the only solution is to use human waste as fuel. To encourage production, the government hands out an addictive reward shaped like an ice lolly, which also works as a laxative. Aachi and Ssipak are two street hoods who survive by trading those on the black market. The film piles science fiction, action and gross-out humour on top of each other without attempting any balance; the violence is extreme and the tone is ugly on purpose. It failed at the Korean box office and found a cult audience afterwards. It is a piece of adult animation that sits entirely outside the mainstream. Who it's for: viewers seeking extreme adult animation and black humour. Who it's not for: anyone with no tolerance for crude humour, excessive violence and toilet jokes; the film is made of them from start to finish.
