In Dark Meat City, a place that resembles Los Angeles, Angelino scrapes a living from odd jobs. After a motorcycle accident he starts getting headaches and seeing something else in certain people's faces. He works out that the city's powerful are not human. The film is not interested in the conspiracy. It is interested in being invisible: the hero lives in a neighbourhood nobody cares about, which is exactly why he can see what nobody notices. Its humour comes from there too. The form comes from comics and keeps the graphic language: hard colours, comic-panel framing, a design fed by street culture. The Japanese studio Studio 4°C is among the producers, and the result is a hybrid of French comics and Japanese animation. The source is Mutafukaz, the comic by Guillaume Renard, known as Run, who directed the film himself. Orelsan and Gringe provide voices in the French version. Who it is for: viewers who like adult animation, comic adaptations and urban culture. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a clean story. The film is fast, loud, and its plot comes apart in the second half.
