What Ab Tak Chhappan Is About
Sadhu Agashe heads a special unit in the Mumbai police. He is known by a number: fifty-six. That is how many people he has killed on duty. The papers write him up as a hero, the public is behind him, politicians pose with him. At home he is an ordinary man with a quiet life, a wife and a son. Then someone inside the force wants his position and opens an inquiry into his methods. Overnight he is outside the side that was protecting him. Shimit Amin directs, with Nana Patekar as Sadhu. Two hours and nine minutes. Ram Gopal Varma is among the producers. The film is built on the encounter killings the Mumbai police carried out in the nineties, later heavily contested; it neither clears them nor condemns them, and simply shows how the practice worked.
