What Abel Is About

Abel is past thirty and has never once left the house. Doctors and psychiatrists have been tried and have failed. As a last resort his father Victor brings Christine home, so the boy might pick up some basic way of being around people. His mother Duif takes this for an affair of her husband's and brings the roof down, and at the end of the row Abel is thrown out into the street. The first person he meets out there is Zus, a stripper, who is kind to him. There is one problem: his father is already after Zus, and nobody says so. Alex van Warmerdam's first film. A hundred minutes. He plays Abel himself, with Henri Garcin as the father and Olga Zuiderhoek as the mother. This is where his cold, contrary Dutch humour starts.
