Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case

Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist. He was held in solitary detention for eighty one days. On release he is put under house arrest. Problems begin with his sleep and his memory. Eighteen cameras watch his studio and his home. The police follow his every move. The restrictions placed on him wear him down. Journalists, the art world and his family all want something from him. On top of that a huge lawsuit is brought against him. The case comes to be known as the Fake Case. Ai Weiwei is shaken by the pressure. Through the year of probation, though, he finds new ways. He goes on confronting the authorities with his art. Ai Weiwei speaks in the eighty six minute documentary. It is a Danish, Chinese and British co-production Andreas Johnsen finished in 2013.
