What Alexandra's Project Is About
Steve comes home from work on his birthday, freshly promoted and in good spirits, expecting a surprise from his wife. The house is dark, empty and locked down. On the table there is a videotape with a note telling him to watch it. Most of the rest of the film is that tape, on which his wife Alexandra says what she has to say about their marriage. Rolf de Heer's film is deliberately uncomfortable, confined to one room and one point of view. Built on sexual coercion and revenge, it is hard going and has always divided its audience.
