All My Sons

During the war Joe Keller shipped cracked aircraft parts out of his factory and twenty-one pilots died because of it. He put the blame on his partner Herbert Deever, who went to prison, while Keller was cleared and went on being the well-liked man on the block. Years later his son Chris wants to marry Deever's daughter, and everything that was buried comes up onto the table. Irving Reis directed this version of the play that was Arthur Miller's first big Broadway success. The subject is not one man's theft but the way war profit can hide behind the sentence "I did it for my family". Edward G. Robinson plays a father convinced of his own innocence without ever turning him into a monster, and Burt Lancaster is the son who wants to go on being able to look at him.
