What Almanya: Welcome to Germany Is About
Six year old Cenk is picked by no football team; neither the Turkish boys nor the German ones count him as one of theirs. To console him, his cousin Canan starts telling the story of their grandfather Hüseyin, who came to Germany as a worker at the end of the sixties and later brought his family over, and of the forty five years since. Meanwhile Hüseyin announces that he has bought a house in Turkey and wants everyone to go together. Yasemin Şamdereli tells a migration story as comedy rather than lament, and lets nobody answer the question of where home actually is.
