Alone Across the Arctic

Adam Shoalts is an explorer. He decides to cross the Canadian Arctic from one end to the other. The route is reckoned at four thousand kilometres. He makes the journey by canoe and on foot. There is nobody with him. He starts in the west, in the Yukon. His destination is a remote settlement in the east, on the shore of Hudson Bay. The journey takes four months. Rivers, lakes and tundra follow one another. The weather keeps changing on him. Being alone is as hard as the route itself. The director Francis Luta flies into the region three times across those four months. Some of the footage was shot that way. Shoalts films the rest of it himself. The documentary gives the landscape and the solitude the same weight. Adam Shoalts tells his own journey in the eighty six minute documentary. It is an American production Francis Luta finished in 2019.
