What American Drug War: The Last White Hope Is About
Kevin Booth's 2007 documentary treats the American war on drugs not as a policy argument but as a claim of outright failure. In its account the war itself feeds prisons and certain interests and has long since parted company with its stated purpose. The film takes a side openly and is trying to persuade you, which is worth knowing before you start it. The people who appear are not much alike: politicians such as Ron Paul and Gary Johnson, Joe Rogan, Jello Biafra, and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who stands squarely against the position the film argues. Making room for the opposing view does not soften the thesis, but it keeps the film from being a single voice.
