American Gospel: Christ Alone

The documentary puts the central question of Christianity on the table. What is the gospel, it asks at the outset. It looks for the answer through the lens of American culture. Its real target is the teaching known as prosperity theology. That teaching holds that health and wealth are owed to everyone. The film argues that this distorts the message itself. It takes up the circle known as the Word of Faith movement. Preachers and theologians speak on camera. The director follows the teaching as it is exported abroad. Brandon Kimber grew up in a church of that kind. He says what he heard there left him confused. The documentary is plainly built as an advocacy film. The other side is not given equal room. The narration defends one particular theology. It reads as a case being argued rather than a debate. Costi Hinn and Justin Peters appear in the one hundred forty minute documentary. It is an American production Brandon Kimber finished in 2018.
