What An Affair Is About
Seo-hyun, in her late thirties, is an ordinary housewife with a ten year old son and a successful architect for a husband; her days consist of the same routine tasks over and over. That sheltered life is shaken when Woo-in, the fiancé of her much younger sister, appears. What begins between them reopens both her questions about her own life and her relations with her family, and every step goes further towards a place from which it is hard to return. E J-yong’s hundred and eight minute Korean film tells the affair not as a scandal but as a woman’s encounter with her own desire. Lee Mi-sook plays Seo-hyun and Lee Jung-jae plays Woo-in, and it was completed in 1998.
