Ana

The film is set in the Trás-os-Montes region of Portugal. At its centre is an elderly woman. Her name is Ana. She lives on that land with her family. The story looks at the cycle between birth and death. Ana stands as an emblem of that cycle. Hers is a life lived in harmony with nature and with tradition. The film mixes documentary and fiction together. There is very little dialogue. What is left unsaid outweighs what is said. The bond between generations and the bond with the land are both conveyed without words. The woman playing Ana is the mother of one of the directors. Ana Maria Martins Guerra appears in the hundred and ten minute film, a Portuguese production Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis finished in 1982.
