Angry Inuk

The documentary takes up Inuit communities and the argument over seal hunting. A new generation of Inuit activists enters that argument through social media. With posts they call sealfies, they explain their own hunting traditions. Against them stands a hard campaign coming from the animal rights side. The film’s case is this: those campaigns strike the Inuit economy directly and leave communities struggling to make a living. The director Alethea Arnaquq-Baril is Inuit herself and stands with the activists. The account presents Inuit not as a people left in the past but as people of the present. The eighty five minutes are given to that argument. Alethea Arnaquq-Baril’s Canadian documentary was completed in 2016.
