What Another State of Mind Is About
The documentary follows two punk bands, Social Distortion and Youth Brigade, as they set out on their first international tour in the summer of 1982. The bands travel in an old school bus, and money, a breaking down bus, cancelled shows and people falling out with one another bring the tour down step by step. Along the way they meet the progressive punk band Minor Threat and spend about a week at the Dischord house towards the end of the trip. The film puts the energy on stage and the exhaustion inside the bus into the same frame and shows at close range how the hardcore punk scene organised itself. In the seventy eight minute production by Peter Stuart and Adam Small, Mike Ness, Shawn Stern and Ian MacKaye appear; it was completed in 1984.
