What Antarctica: Ice & Sky Is About

The glaciologist Claude Lorius began studying Antarctic ice in 1957. During a celebration he dropped a piece of core ice into his whisky and noticed the bubbles rising out of it as it melted: that air had been trapped there for tens of thousands of years. The accident led to the idea of measuring the atmosphere of the past directly, and by 1965 Lorius was among the first scientists to be worried about global warming. Luc Jacquet's documentary follows both the scientific journey and a life spent at the pole. It shows how slow, cold and patient the work actually is.
