What The Fox and the Child Is About
A girl who sees a fox in the forest starts looking for it every day and eventually gets close. The closer she gets, the more she wants to make the animal hers. The film starts like a friendship story and questions in its last section what that means; the narrative says plainly that taming is not a form of love. The nature footage is shot with documentary care and there is almost no dialogue. Luc Jacquet directed, having been known previously for nature documentary. It was shot in the French Alps. Who it's for: those who like nature films and slow stories for children. Who it's not for: younger viewers expecting a happy ending; something upsetting happens at the close.
