What Arabikkatha Is About
Mukundan, known as Cuba, is forced against his own wishes to go to Dubai, in order to cover the money his father is said to have taken from the local cooperative bank and clear the debt. A committed communist in his own village, once he is among the workers of the Gulf he sees for the first time at close range what the phrase working class means, and realises how little the movement he defends at home has to do with life there. Lal Jose’s film shows the distance between ideology and daily life without mockery and without softening it either. Sreenivasan plays Mukundan, with Indrajith Sukumaran, Samvrutha Sunil and Salim Kumar in the cast. The Malayalam production runs a hundred and fifty minutes and dates from 2007.
