Aren't We Wonderful

The film is a satire on the course Germany took through the first half of the twentieth century. At its centre are two schoolmates, Hans and Bruno. They could not be less alike. Hans is ambitious and has to work for every step; Bruno seems carefree, a man for whom things simply fall into place. Bruno’s rise shows what qualities the period rewarded. The Nazi years and the post war boom are told through the same two lives. The film settles with the past not by direct accusation but by mockery. That it took the subject up in a comic tone in Germany in 1958 is its marked choice. Hansjörg Felmy and Robert Graf appear in Kurt Hoffmann’s hundred and eight minute German film, completed in 1958.
