Confessions of Felix Krull

Felix Krull grew up in a poor family. He always saw himself inside some other life. What he has to work with is charm. He can also play a part. He gets on with those two things. He moves through the Europe of the years before the First World War. Through hotels, drawing rooms and the company of the wealthy. He is somebody different in every place. The people he deceives believe him. He turns his life into a performance. The story comes from a novel by Thomas Mann. The novel was published in 1954 and was left unfinished. The film opened on 25 April 1957. It was shot in Hamburg and on location in Lisbon. It was named best foreign language film at the Golden Globes. Horst Buchholz, Liselotte Pulver and Ingrid Andree appear in the hundred and eight minute film, a West German production Kurt Hoffmann finished in 1957.
