Only You (1994): Plot, Cast & Where to Watch

Name: Only You
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Released: 1994
Duration: 109 min
Cast: Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Bonnie Hunt, Joaquim de Almeida, Fisher Stevens

What Only You Is About

A woman who has believed since childhood in a name given to her during a childhood game hears, days before her wedding, that a man with that name is in Italy, and goes after him. The film pretends to take fate seriously while repeatedly finding the wrong man; the narrative makes that repetition the engine of its comedy. Rome, Venice and Positano are shot with deliberately touristic beauty, because the film presents itself as a fable. Norman Jewison directed, with Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. in the leads. Who it's for: those who like nineteen-nineties romantic comedy set in Italy. Who it's not for: viewers who need the characters to behave reasonably; she abandons her fiance over a prophecy and the film does not question it.
