Arth

The film tells the breaking up of a marriage and the woman’s effort afterwards to build a life of her own. When her husband’s attachment to another woman comes out she first tries to put everything back as it was, then sees that this is not possible and decides to stand on her own feet. The account builds the matter not around whose fault the betrayal was but around the woman finding on her own what she wants. The director said the film drew on his own life. The account does not declare the other woman an enemy either; it shows the tight place she is in as well. Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil appear in Mahesh Bhatt’s hundred and thirty eight minute Indian film, completed in 1982.
