What Aurora Is About

Aurora is a young woman in Lapland who attaches herself to nothing and spends her nights in bars. Darian is an asylum seeker from Iran; he has a small daughter and needs a Finnish wife in order to stay in the country. Aurora decides to help him find one. Then the two of them get caught on each other. Miia Tervo's Finnish film is her first feature. The telling takes up the question of migration without delivering a lesson; Aurora's own mess and Darian's helplessness stand on the same level. Mimosa Willamo and Amir Escandari take the leads. The humour is dry and does not mock the characters; the film takes them both seriously.
