What Bad Seeds Is About

Jacques, an actor of the classical theatre, runs up a debt with a Montreal loan shark and flees, ending up in the middle of winter on Simon’s land. Simon is rough, shrewd and somewhat outside the law; he grows cannabis in his barn and manoeuvres Jacques into a partnership. After a difficult start the two begin to be of use to each other. Then Francesca arrives, a sharp young woman who joins the venture. By the winter harvest the three have learned to live together, but forces from outside threaten the balance. Written by Louis Bélanger with Alexis Martin and directed by Bélanger, it opened in March 2016 and took Iris awards for best screenplay and, for Luc Picard, best supporting actor.
