Beautiful Noise

The documentary is about a movement in music that appeared at the end of the twentieth century. In that period some musicians put guitar noise inside conventional pop song structures. The same people held that the music should be left to speak for itself. The movement later came to be called shoegaze. Most of those who speak in the film are known for staying away from the press; even so they talk about those years and about what they did. How they defied the rules, and how they went on to shape later generations, is the subject. The film leaves the describing to the people who made the music rather than doing it itself. It is built as a record looking back twenty years. Kevin Shields, Robert Smith, Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor are among those who speak in Eric Green’s ninety minute American documentary, completed in 2014.
