What Billie Eilish: Live at the O2 (Extended Cut) Is About
Sam Wrench's 2023 concert film records Billie Eilish's show at the O2 in London. For the first time in her career a live performance is captured visually in full, and the extended version contains the whole set list. The form tries to close the distance between stage and audience. The camera is often inside the arena and the direct exchanges between Eilish and the crowd are left uncut; those passages between songs set the film's character. The stage design is large in scale but the cinematography looks at faces more than effects. Her brother Finneas is on stage and the live arrangements differ noticeably from the recordings. Who it's for: her listeners and those who like concert films. Who it's not for: viewers expecting documentary background; the film is performance throughout and tells no story.
