Depeche Mode: M

Fernando Frías's 2025 concert film records three nights Depeche Mode played in Mexico City in 2023. It is not only stage footage: the relationship the album Memento Mori has with death is set beside how Mexican culture regards it. Daniel Giménez Cacho's narration draws a line from the Aztec god of the land of the dead to the Day of the Dead, and the concert is placed inside that frame. Images of a crowd of some two hundred thousand run alongside the stage recordings. This is the band's first concert film since the death of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022, and that loss sets the film's register. It premiered at Tribeca and then went into cinemas. Who it's for: Depeche Mode listeners and viewers who like concert films built around an idea. Who it's not for: anyone wanting only a setlist and stage footage; the film leaves the concert often.
