BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage - LA

This is the record of the first large concerts BTS played before a live audience after the pandemic began. The group performed four nights at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles at the close of 2021, and the film was assembled from the 28 November show. It was directed by Park Jun-soo and Sam Wrench, the latter of whom would go on two years later to shoot Taylor Swift's Eras Tour film. The recording keeps its attention deliberately on the stage. There is no backstage footage, no interviews, no narrator, just two and a half hours of the show. That choice makes it less a documentary than a performance document, and it transmits the group's choreographic discipline, the scale of the crowd and the emotional charge of a two-year absence without commentary. Disney Plus released it worldwide as an unannounced surprise on 8 September 2022. Reviews were warm, with The Independent awarding five stars. Who it is for: BTS listeners and anyone who enjoys watching large-scale stage production. Who it is not for: viewers wanting backstage narrative, band history or documentary framing, none of which the film attempts.
