Gaga Chromatica Ball

The film is a concert recording. Lady Gaga performs at a stadium in Los Angeles before fifty two thousand people. The show is divided into three parts, each with its own staging, costume and choreography. The stage design is on a large scale: moving platforms, a large dance company and a live orchestra. There is no backstage footage between them; the film rests almost entirely on the stage. Lady Gaga directs. The recording dates from 2024 and was shown on a television channel. The tour was postponed twice because of the epidemic and the show was staged years later than planned; the film presents the recording made after that wait. The stage footage was shot across more than one night and edited as a single show. What is most striking is that the live performance is put forward; the sound is largely uncorrected and breath and fatigue are audible. The piano sections come in the middle of the show and the scale drops entirely there. There is no narrative; the film builds no story and gives no background. The artist directed it herself and the editing choices are hers. Who it is for: anyone curious about concert films and stage design. Who it is not for: there is no narrative, no material off stage, and it is long for anyone uninterested in the artist.
