Rite Here Rite Now

The film records a Ghost concert. The staging is more than a concert: the band carries a fiction; the singer plays a character, the masked musicians are nameless, and each tour tells the next chapter. During the recording the story on stage is tied off. Acted sections are set between the concert footage: scenes behind the stage, conversations between characters and the closing of the fiction. The viewer watches a concert and the end of a narrative at the same time. Tobias Forge directs; he founded the band and is its singer. The band came out of Sweden and presents its music together with a staged fiction; the masks, the papal costume and the changes of character are part of it. The concert was filmed in Los Angeles and the recording taken from a single performance. The acted sections were shot with professional actors and set inside the same cut as the concert. The matter it treats is the closing of the band's own story, a fiction carried album by album across years. The sound recording and the stage design are its strongest side. Its limit is accessibility; the fictional sections stay meaningless for anyone who does not know the band. Another limit is balance; the passages between concert and story break the rhythm. Who it is for: listeners of Ghost and viewers who like concert films. Who it is not for: it is closed to anyone unfamiliar with the band, the acting is weak, and it runs long.
