What Blind Justice Is About
On New Year’s Eve a strongman convicted of murder escapes from prison and collects his son from an orphanage. Breaking into a manor house to find milk for the boy, he is caught by Eva, a young woman living there, who takes pity and decides to help him, until others in the house wake and call the police. Fourteen years later he is released, convinced that she gave him up, and sets out both to take revenge and to find his son. Benjamin Christensen wrote, directed and starred; Johan Ankerstjerne shot it for Dansk Biograf Compagni. It opened on 25 September 1916 and is counted among the most inventive works of Danish silent cinema. English-language sources render the two leads as Strong John and Ann.
