Kahlil Joseph's 2025 film comes out of a video installation previously shown in galleries. The structure imitates a news broadcast while the content keeps sliding. Archive footage, staged scenes and music interlock. W. E. B. Du Bois and Marcus Garvey appear as fictionalised figures; the narrative does not give Black history as a straight line and makes you ask who writes the news. The form is likened to listening to an album. The editing is fast and layered. The work was rearranged for the cinema. Who it's for: those who like video art and experimental editing. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a comprehensible documentary; the film keeps changing shape.
