What Body Without Soul Is About
Wiktor Grodecki’s documentary is about boys between fifteen and eighteen being worked on the streets, in the stations and in the clubs of Prague in the mid nineties. Everyone speaking is a child, and what they speak about is money, fear, HIV and plans to get out. The film shows, without softening it, how the machinery meant to protect children failed during years of rapid change in the country. For the same reason it was hard argued over: whether the camera protected these boys, and whether the consent they gave could mean anything, are still open questions. It sits in the middle of Grodecki’s Prague trilogy.
