Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis

Reka Wijaya's 2024 Indonesian film follows Tari, who tries to protect her mother from her father's violence after her older sister leaves home. She can tell nobody; then she joins a support group and forms a lasting friendship with someone she meets there. The subject is how hard it is to ask for help. Tari counted the situation as normal for years; hearing what others say in the group she sees her own life differently, and that recognition brings no ease. The narrative is measured between showing the violence and withholding it; the incidents are mostly understood after the fact. Prilly Latuconsina leads. The final section offers no resolution and leaves the process as an ongoing condition. Who it's for: those who can watch Indonesian drama and narratives about domestic violence. Who it's not for: viewers sensitive to domestic violence; the film places it at the centre.
